Mrs. Rita Namakiika Nangono

Chairperson

Rita’s career spans over 15 years and she has extensive experience with Corporate & Commercial law, Corporate Governance, establishment of companies, joint ventures and other forms of domestic and foreign investments. Before working for N & N Advocates, she was Company Secretary at Lion Assurance Company Limited one of the largest insurance companies in Uganda. Rita has held a number of positions as legal counsel in both medium and large corporations in various fields including insurance, real estate, construction, manufacturing and export, NGOs, Educational Institutes, Environment and Tourism amongst others. 

She has represented Companies in a variety of legal matters in court, conducted and maintained legal research related to various transactional matters including, but not limited to, labor and employment, contract, consumer, intellectual property, and general operational concerns. She has also provided legal analysis and opinions related to such research, reviewed and composed Company policies, procedures, handbooks and other related documents. 

She has drafted and reviewed contracts including intellectual property, non-compete and non-disclosure, employment, service, and lease agreements to protect Company interests. Rita is a specially trained trial advocacy lawyer with a certificate in Trial Advocacy by Justice Advocacy Africa in conjunction with Uganda Law Society. She can competently handle all civil and criminal litigation in all courts in Uganda. She is also a facilitator and examiner in insurance law at the Insurance Training College.

Mr. George Steven Okotha

Member

Mr. George Okotha is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (U) SMC Ltd effective August 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Statistics and Economics from Makerere University, Kampala. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of U.K (ACII). He has worked with the National Insurance Corporation for 13 years and with the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda for 20 years until his retirement in 2018 when he was the Director Operations. 

He is a Fellow of The Insurance Institute of Uganda and was the coordinator of the Chartered Insurance Institute of UK, Examinations in Uganda for 20 years from 1999- 2019. He has attended several seminars and presented several academic papers in the areas of Reinsurance, Insurance, Insurance Supervision, Risk Management and Anti-money Laundering. He lectures part time at The Insurance Training College of Uganda and has Authored a book entitled “Reinsurance Management” for the College. He is the proprietor and Director at M/s Mukono Cinnamon and Rosemary Farmers Ltd. 

He is a member of The Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda and is a Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Bweyogerere-Namboole. He served as a Board Committee Member of M/s Statewide Insurance Co. Ltd from August 2019 to July 2020.

Solome Mayinja Luwaga

Solome is a Member of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal. She is the Managing Partner at M/S SEMPASA, LUWAGA, MUWEMBA & Co. Advocates. Previously she was the Company Secretary/Head of legal department at Statewide Insurance Co. Ltd. She is an Advocate of the High Court and all courts of Judicature in Uganda. She is an accredited mediator/ arbitrator of the Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (CADER). 

She is also a Graduate of the chartered Governance Institute (UK). She has served on several Boards including the Higher Education school Financing Board, Federation of Uganda Employers, Uganda Insurers Association, Audit Committee of the Institute of Corporate Governance and Justice and Advocacy for Women & Children, Uganda. Solome is the current Secretary for Women in Insurance in Uganda(WIN) Solome holds a Masters of Arts in Human Rights (Distinction) from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, a Bachelor of Laws from, Makerere University, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala and a graduate of the (Governance Institute, UK, and Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators–UK. 

She is a member of the Uganda Law Society & East African Law Society and the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda). Solome is passionate about social justice, women and children rights, and serves the minority through membership to the Lions Clubs International where she has held several leadership positions in the club and the District Cabinet.

Dr. Bbaale John Mayanja

John Bbale Mayanja is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Economics, Makerere University, and a research fellow at EfD-Mak Centre which is part of the Global Network of Environmental Economics Research Centres supported by Sida. John has research interests in Economic Growth and Development, Investment / Foreign-Direct Investment, Education, Tourism Demand, Firm and Household Level Behavior, Youth Unemployment, Public Finance, Youth and Gender, Corruption, and Governance, among others. As a scholar, John has peer-reviewed publications in ranking journals which among others include; Global Economy Journal; Journal of Entrepreneurship, Business, and Economics; Modern Economy; International Journal of Business and Management; International Journal of Innovation Science and Research Technology, Journal of Sustainable Development; International Journal of Economics and Finance; Journal of Economic Integration; and International Journal of Social Science and Economic Research. 

John is a member of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal (Uganda) and has vast experience in lecturing both at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels. He has taught various courses that include; Labour Economics, Industrial Economics, Project Planning and Management, International Economics, Monetary Economics, Public Sector Economics, Advanced Micro Economics, Management Economics, Advanced Macro-Economics, Development Economics, and Environmental Economics, among others. Finally, John holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Johannes Kepler University (Austria), an MA in Economics from Dar Es Salaam University (Tanzania), and a BA in Economics from Makerere University (Uganda).

Mrs. Adah Kabarokore Muwanga

Adah is highly experienced in Public Service Management. She served in the Public Service of Uganda for 36 years and honorably retired from the Civil Service at the level of Director, Human Resource Management. She also acted as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service for three years from 2012 to 2015. She represented the Ministry of Public Service on various Boards including the Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI) and the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority (URBRA). 

Currently she is working as Member of the Public Service Commission. Adah possesses a Masters of Arts Degree in Public Administration and Management (MAPAM) and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences both from Makerere University, Kampala. She has also been extensively trained in various Leadership and Management fields including corporate Governance and Board Management in Public Service delivery. Adah has a passion for excellence in Public Service delivery.

Isaac Mpanga

Registrar

Isaac Mpanga is an Advocate of the High Court and a Member of the Uganda Law Society and East Africa Law society. He is an experienced commercial lawyer with a banking career spanning over 8 years.
He is currently the Registrar of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
